CRIMESTOPPERS
CARNIVALE
May 31, 2006
Dear Friends and Supporters,
As
my term on the New Orleans City Council comes to a close, I
wanted
express my gratitude to the people of New Orleans for allowing
me to serve
you over the past four years. It has been an honor to represent
New
Orleans to the world and to work to move New Orleans forward.
Reflecting
on the decisions that I have made over the past four years,
I
can honestly say that I have no regrets. Too often, elected officials
are
afraid to make tough decisions because it might hurt their chances
of
getting re-elected. I am proud of taking a stand for progress,
whether it
be allowing Stuart Hall to build a new gym, embracing Churchill
Downs to
run the Farigrounds, pushing for federal assistance for our bankrupt
utility company to rebuild the power grid or passing the home
gutting
ordinance that all surrounding parishes are now enacting as well.
I
am the father of seven and nine year old girls who I did
not see for 4
months following Hurricane Katrina and they are very excited
about having
Daddy around for the summer -- and Andrée is happy to have me
around more
as well. This was a difficult year losing our home and my business
so it
seems my energies will be focused in the right area for us at
this time.
I have been humbled by the many letters and phone calls I have
received
over the past ten days and I assure you that I will continue
to be active
in civic life.
Thank
you again for all of your support and well wishes and I look
forward
to seeing each and every one of you very soon.
All my very best,
Jay Batt
